At Remedies we have been preaching the values of good sun protection and avoiding the harmful rays of the sun and sun beds for years.

It was 10 years ago that the BBC came to the clinic for a news article on a man who was addicted to sun beds and the long term damage he was doing to his skin.  He was shown his skin in our skin scanner so he could see the damaged areas underneath the surface. He then had some advice on how to bring his skin back to a better condition.

Not only do the harmful UV rays prematurely age your skin but can also result in skin cancer and Malignant Melanoma. Here in the the South West we have the highest rate of Malignant Melanoma in the UK so we need to take extra care.

Sun protection is so important

Protect you skin from UV rays all year round.

Good sun protection factor (SPF) is vital all year round, you must start to think of UV rays as not how hot it is. There are some great products available now which are moisturisers with an SPF in them so it makes it so easy for good skin care.

Many people don’t understand the difference between UVA and UVB rays so here is a simple way to think of it:

Firstly ALL UV rays will have an effect on the skin. The UVB are the Burning Rays and the UVA are the Ageing Rays.

The UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin damaging the skin cells beneath resulting in premature ageing your skin.

The UVB Burning Rays are responsible for causing redness, blisters, some resulting pigmentation and red veins.

So, before the summer comes get some good advice, the right sun protection and your skin analysed in our skin scanner.

You can have a FREE Skin Analysis in the scanner, ask the skin care therapist about what SPF product would be best for your skin and if you have sun damaged skin find out what we can do to treat it including laser treatments.
