Dry Skin

How would we describe Dry Skin

If you have “Dry Skin” you may find beauty products seem unable to penetrate your skin. It is rough to the touch and has a dull colour. Do not despair because most of us have some sort of skin condition or another, but if we can get your skin well balanced, give it a healthy colour, with a good texture then we are sure you will be happy.

Quite often we relate/classify the skin types by the Ph Level it has i.e. where it is in the Alkaline to Acid range. The Ph level of Dry Skin is more likely to be more at the extremes i.e. too Acid or too Alkaline. Ideally your skin needs to be slightly acidic (Ph 5.5) known as the skin's 'acid mantle' and one of the major functions of the acid mantle is to protect the skin and body from the absorption of bacteria. As bacteria cannot survive in an acidic environment, maintaining the correct level of acidity is vital.

Typical questions we get asked about Dry Skin and some of our recommendations

"How can I stop getting these dry patches of skin?"

"My dry skin often becomes inflamed and can become flaky"

"If I do put on Oily products on my dry skin they always feel too heavy and don’t seem to go into the skin very easily"

All clients ask us what skincare products they should be using and of course your skin will never remain exactly the same all the time. Dry skin can often be linked to a more mature person or someone who has a hormonal issue. You must not forget too that the environment you are in has an impact and you could now be in a centrally heated air conditioned office, which you were not previously.

When clients come to our clinic an initial key question for us to ask is "What do you use to cleanse your skin?"

For Dry Skin types regular Exfoliation is very important to help remove a build up of dead skin cells and we recommend the use of Oil based cleansers and moisturisers. We advise that you avoid powder based foundations and look at your diet and lifestyle too. You can also layer on Serums and Moisturisers and SPF.,/p>

So, with the right balance of beauty and cosmetic products and their use it significantly helps to effectively maintain your skin in a healthy condition and keep it younger looking. We always advise Sun Protection for all year round and we always recommend SPF30.

Treatments Recommended for Dry Skin

The Consultation Facial

Let us help and guide you and help you make the right decision. If it is your first visit to our clinic, we suggest you book our Consultation Facial to allow us time to devise your personal skin care regime.

Dermalogica Multi-Vitamin Facial

This is an oil based Vitamin A delivering treatment which exfoliates whilst moisturising the skin at the same time.

Glycolic Peels

These Glycolic Peel treatments will encourage exfoliation of those surface dead skin cells enabling serums and moisturisers to penetrate deeper.

By using mainly oil based products and chemical exfoliants we can balance the dry skin and immediately affect its texture and colour.
